U.N. chief of Staff Gen. William E. Riley had arranged a meeting between Israel Premier David Ben Gurion and the late Syrian president Husni Zaim before the latter was assassinated, the Arab press reported today.
Gen. Riley’s early efforts were useless, it was revealed, because Premier Ben Gurion refused to meet until Syria had signed the armistice pact. After the signing, the date was set for August 21, seven days after Zaim’s murder.
