The appointment of Melvin A. Block as national chairman of the 1955 Joint Defense Appeal was announced here yesterday. The JDA, fund-raising arm of the American Jewish Committee and Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith, is seeking $5,000,000 this year, half of which is to be raised in New York.
