Mrs. Rosario Castellanos, the poet who has served as Mexico’s ambassador to Israel the past two years, returned here to receive from President Luis Echeverria Alvarez the 1972 Elias Sourasky Award for literature. Sourasky, a well-known Jewish financier and philanthropist, presents 50,000-peso ($4000) awards each year for achievements in literature, science and art.

At the ceremony, Echeverria praised the initiative of Sourasky, who also contributes to the upkeep of Mexican schools and training centers. Mrs. Castellanos was accorded receptions at the Jewish Sports Centre, several Jewish institutions and in private homes. She lauded Israel’s attainments in literature, economics, science and art.
