The Greater Miami Combined Jewish Appeal, which had set a 1965 goal of $1,435,000, went over the top by more than $15,000, raising a total of $1,450,232, it was announced here by Dr. Irving Lehrman, chairman of the campaign.
The announcement was made at the 27th meeting of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. Sidney Lefcourt, president of the Federation for three terms, retired from that post. The Federation elected Joseph M. Lipton as president. Mr. Lipton, a banker, has been a member of the Federation executive committee and board of governors since the organization’s inception, 27 years ago, was vice-president for the past four years, and headed the Combined Jewish Appeal here in 1961.
In his terminal report as president, Mr. Lefcourt assured the Federation that it is “in good hands.” He cited a study recently completed by a Ten-Year Capital Needs Committee, which is projecting future capital expansions by the Federation’s affiliated agencies, and the infusion of young leadership, as assurances that services necessary for communal needs would be fully met. At the meeting, special honors were paid for their services to Mr. Lefcourt and Dr. Lehrman.
