Reporting on his experiences as advisor on Jewish affairs to the United States High Commissioners in Germany and Austria, Harry Greenstein, in an address today before a meeting of the American Jewish Committee’s New York Chapter, made several proposals for the democratization of Germany.
He suggested that the occupying powers recognize anti-Semitism as a rejection of democracy and an unmistakable sign of the resurgence of German nationalism. He asked that the authorities in Germany be vigilant against manifestations of anti-Semitism and that they deal with it in a vigorous and militant fashion.
