Annoyed over charges made before the congressional hearings on Nazi activities, Heinz von Nobel, Milwaukee leader of the Stahlhelm issued a statement locally, claiming the organization has high and noble purposes.
Von Nobel, in high dudgeon, denied charges made by Frank Mutschinski, former American head of the Stahlhelm, that this military group is a puppet organization under direct control of Herr Hitler. Mutschinski did not resign from the Stahlhelm, as reported at Washington, but was “fired,” added von Nobel righteously.
Furthermore, averred von Nobel, “the Stahlhelm is simply an organization of German war veterans with an auxiliary of young men who have proven their loyalty to their country in fighting the communistic menace. No orders are issued from Germany to foreign units.”
The Stahlhelm in addition has the exalted aim of continuing wartime comradeships and “educating its members to become good American citizens,” asserted von Nobel. The organization also has taken upon itself the brave task of “fighting the communists,” concluded von Nobel importantly.
Von Nobel claimed the local Stahlhelm unit has twenty-four senior and fourteen junior members.
