The Israel-Jordan Mixed Armistice Commission condemned Jordan today “in the most strenuous terms” for a shooting affray last Tuesday, in which an Israeli workman was killed near Jerusalem.

The killing occurred when Jordanians fired across the Jerusalem demarcation lines at a truck transporting workers at Orah settlement. The commission termed the shooting “a flagrant breach” of the armistice, and called on Jordan to take “appropriate measures” to prevent a recurrence. The commission also condemned Israel for firing across the same lines, presumably after the Jordan shooting, saying evidence shewed that the Israel action was not necessarily “an exchange of fire.”
