Questions of concern to orthodox Jewry were under consideration here today as the seventeenth annual National Mizrachi-Zionist convention continued its deliberations. The convention opened last night in the Hotel Seneca.
The convention went on record as endorsing the stand taken by the World Mizrachi congress at Cracow last Fall, calling for a world congress of orthodox Jewish elements in Palestine in 1934.
A resolution condemning the present methods of collecting funds for the yeshivahs, the rabbinical seminaries, and laying the groundwork for systematized, centralized fundraising methods for these institutions was also adopted. The resolution stressed the need of saving the yeshivahs from their present plight.
The NRA five-day week was heartily endorsed by the convention as strengthening Sabbath observance. A message was sent to President Franklin D. Roosevelt to this effect.
Among the more important measures under consideration by the convention is a strongly-worded condemnation of the present immigration policy of the Palestine government reiterating that the Jews are in Palestine by right, not by sufferance, and a denunciation of the man-hunt now being prosecuted by the Palestine government for Jewish tourists who have overstayed their leave.
