Mondale Going to Israel

The White House announced this morning that Vice President Walter Mondale will visit Israel at the end of this month to participate in continuing festivities marking the 30th anniversary of Israel’s independence. The Vice President will leave the U.S. June 29 and return July 3.

The announcement, issued by President Carter, said that Mondale “will convey my congratulations and those of the American people to Israel on this important anniversary. The visit underscores the deep and enduring ties of friendship between the people of the United States and the people of Israel.” The announcement noted that Mondale was invited to Israel by Premier Menachem Begin and the Speaker of the Knesset. The Vice President is not expected to make any other stops in the Middle East during his trip. (By David Ettinger)
