Two men were held in $500 bail each by a local court on charges of having offered for sale as kosher meat non-kosher prducts.
The two Samuel Rudd, alias Samuel Roth, and Louis Hartstein, both of New York City, were arrested Aug. 25 by Shepherd Z. Baum, State Supervisor of Kosher Law Enforcement under the Department of Agriculture and Markets.They were arraigned before Judge Richad K. LaTourette, sitting in the Court of Special Sessions. According to a recently enacted state law, selling of non-kosher meat as kosher constitutes a misdemeanor.
Rudd was sentenced to serve fifteen days in Sullivan County jail on a previous conviction in which sentence had been suspended during good behavior.
