David Amar, president of the Federation of Jewish communities in Morocco, issued an appeal today to Moroccan Jews for full participation in a government referendum for a proposed new constitution.

The Jewish leader said Moroccan citizens of the Jewish faith “must on this occasion display the fullest measure of their attachment to their country and their loyalty and patriotism to Morocco.” He added that participation would give proof that Jews were “living in Morocco as free men and in a democracy.” The directive urging all citizens to vote also was issued in all synagogues.
