A committee of more than five hundred Jewish leaders in every part of the country and representative of every field of endeavor has joined to sponsor the testimonial dinner to Morris Rothenberg, President of the Zionist Organization of America, to be held tonight at the Hotel Astor, Nathan Straus, Jr., Chairman of the Testimonial Committee, has announced. The other officers are Felix M. Warburg, Honorary Chairman; Cyrus Adler, Edward Lazansky, Louis Lipsky, Julian W. Mack, James Marshall, Bernard Semel and Stephen S. Wise, Vice-Chairmen; I. D. Morrison, Treasurer; and Harry L. Glucksman, Secretary.
The messages from President Herbert Hoover, Acting Governor Herbert H. Lehman and Dr. Chaim Weizmann, world Zionist leader, will be among those read tonight at the testimonial dinner.
The list of speakers who will pay tribute to Mr. Rothenberg includes Felix M. Warburg, Honorary Chairman, of the Committee; Dr. Cyrus Adler, President of the American Jewish Committee, Dr. Stephen S. Wise, Honorary President of the American Jewish Congress; Mrs. Rose Halprin, President of Hadassah; Julius Hochman, Vice-President of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union, and Mr. Straus himself. Part of the addresses will be broadcast over Station WJZ at 10:30 P. M.
A parchment scroll reciting Mr. Rothenberg’s services to the Jewish people and to the community at large will be presented to him by the Committee.
The tribute to Mr. Rothenberg is in recognition of his service to Palestine and other Jewish causes, as well as of his service in the labor movement.
A graduate from the New York University Law School, and admitted to the Bar in 1905, Mr. Rothenberg has been specially interested in the field of labor law. The labor organizations for which he has served as counsel include the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union, Board of Cloak, Suit and Reefers Makers’ Union.
