Morris Schappes, a longtime Jewish leftist, journalist and historian, died June 3 in New York at age 97. Schappes was a longtime editor of Jewish Currents Magazine, a leftist publication that slowly moved away from its pro-Communist line after Khrushchev revealed the extent of Stalin’s crimes in 1956.
