Intorg, the official Soviet trading company, has invited the Israeli citrus marketing board to send a delegation to Moscow to negotiate the sale of Israeli citrus products in exchange for Russian goods, it was announced here today. Beside crude oil previously offered, the Soviet company is believed to be offering wheat and barley as barter goods for the Israeli fruit.
The citrus delegation, it is expected, will go to Moscow almost immediately on the heels of Shmuel Eliashiv, Minister to the USSR, who will leave toward the end of next week. Although the delegation is not yet certain whether the citrus deal will be fully cash or barter, it would be in a position to negotiate either way. Last year, the citrus board sold the Soviet Union 500,000 cases of citrus fruits.
It is not known when the Soviet Minister to Israel is scheduled to arrive, but it is known that the Soviet legation officials who arrived here weeks ago have been unable to find accommodations for a legation in Tel Aviv or vicinity. As far as is known today, the Russians are determined to set up the legation in Tel Aviv.
