Hatred of the Jews is something the Mohamedans know little about, General Liman Pasha, chief of the Turkish Army in Palestine during the World War told a representative of a Jewish newspaper here. The only exception to this is the Arab who is a bit intolerant. The history of the Islam, he declared, has very little of persecution and knows nothing of Jewish pogroms.
“Mustafa Kemal Pasha, the leader of the Angora Government, is a great soldier and statesman and has no iota of anti-Semitism in him. There are a large number of Jews in Kemal’s army.”
Speaking of Palestine, Liman Pasha said, that while he had no first hand information, reports received by him were to the effect that under the new regime, Palestine had been transformed and was now bubbling with modern progressive life.
The failure of the German-Turkish army to hold Palestine during the war was due to its inadequacy to meet the larger forces of the Allies, he concluded.
