Hebrew University today conferred an honorary doctorate in philosophy on Premier Golda Meir. The scroll of award states: “Her life has been dedicated to the liberation of the Jewish people and of mankind. Chosen by the people she represents the highest aspirations of the people–its yearning for freedom, its continuous struggle to perfect society.” Similar honors were bestowed on Dr. Louis Freedman, member of the executive committee of the Zionist Organization of America and co-chairman of the Pharmaceutical Division of the United Jewish Appeal; Dr. Arthur F. Burns, the new chairman of the Board of Governors of the United States Federal Reserve System, Professor Zvi Baneth, a distinguished scholar in the field of Islamic Jewish philosophy and philology at the Hebrew University and Sir Isaac Wolfson, Anglo-Jewish financier with a distinguished record of service for Israel.
