American aid to Israel is essential to the welfare of the entire free world, Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt declared here today at a luncheon initiating the fall campaign of the New York Women’s Division of the Israel Bond Organization. “Helping Israel is not just a matter of compassion,” she pointed out, “it is really part of the whole struggle between the free world and the Communist world.”
Mrs Roosevelt was the chief speaker at the luncheon which honored her and nine other “First Ladies” in various fields of endeavor. More than $250, 000 in Israel bonds was sold at the function.
