Foreign names are a difficult barrier to successful amalgamation of the American people, Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt claims in an article in the current issue of Liberty magazine.
Foreign names have severely retarded complete unity in the United States because they “often segregats people as much as color or religion and keep them tied to their particular backgrounds and the homelands from which they come” writes Mrs. Roosevelt. Immigrants should be urged to Americanize their names for this would be an important stride toward a more unified nation, she recommends.
