Two resolutions aimed at eliminating the possibility of racial discrimination in the American Bar Association were approved this week-end by the New Jersey State Bar Association at its annual mid-year meeting here attended by 500 members. The organization voted to recommend the elimination of all references to race, creed or color on application blanks for membership.
A companion resolution, pointing out that only 13 of the A.B.A.’s 41,000 members were Negroes, recommended that its board of governors be deprived of the power of approving or rejecting membership applications. It proposed that membership become automatic upon approval of applications by a state membership committee.
