New York Jewry will hold a mass meeting at Town Hall to night to protest against the restriction of immigration into Palestine by the British authorities. A united front, representing both the general Zionists and the Labor Zionists, are sponsoring the meeting.

Among the speakers announced are David Pinski, Chaim Greenberg, J. Sprindiak, Goldie Myerson, Louis Segal, I. Hamlin, Joel Enteen, Herman Bernstein, Morris Feinstone, Joseph Schlossberg and David Dubinsky. Invitations have also been extended to the editors of the Jewish press, Bernard S. Deutsch, Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, Louis Lipsky and Morris Rothenberg, and it is expected that some, if not all, will be included among the speakers at the protest.

The meeting will be held under the combined auspices of the Poale Zion-Zeire Zion of America, the Jewish National Workers’ Alliance, the Women’s Pioneer Organization, the Young Poale Zion Alliance, the National Labor Committee for Palestine and the League for Labor Palestine.

AMERICAN GROUP CRITICIZES PALESTINE BANS

Bitter criticism of the Palestine government for its failure to award immigration certificates sufficient in number to meet the labor shortage in Palestine is contained in a resolution adopted by Jewish organizations here.

Over the signature of Morris Rothenberg, president of the Zionist Organization of America, the document asserts that the government of Palestine “has ignored all appeals of the Jewish Agency and Jews the world over to grant an immigration schedule based on acute need for labor in Palestine.”

The Jewish Agency for Palestine, with headquarters in London, will receive a copy of the resolution and be requested to forward it to the British Colonial Office.

Signatories include the Zionist Organization of America, American Representatives of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, American Jewish Congress, B’nai Brith, Hadassah, Poale Zion, Jewish National Workers Alliance of America, Mizrachi, Order Sons of Zion, Independent Order Brith Abraham, Free Sons of Israel, Federation of Palestine Jews, United Rumanian Jews of America, and Brith Sholom.

“This curtailment,” the cabled resolution reads in part, “is in striking contradistinction to the demands created by the growing Jewish enterprise and the influx of Jewish capital as well as by the present tragic Jewish position in which Great Britain has evinced its concern.”

Commenting on the move, Mr. Rothenberg declared that it must not be thought that the 5,600 certificates issued represent the total number of Jewish immigrants who may enter Palestine in the next six months. Each certificate entitles the immigrant to bring his wife and children under eighteen years of age. Besides, the capitalist class of immigrants is not limited. However, Mr. Rothenberg said, the shortage of labor immigrants is creating a very serious problem by affecting the normal expansion of the economic life of the country.

The cable was signed by the following:

Zionist Organization of America, Morris Rothenberg, president; American representatives of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, Dr. Stephen S. Wise and Dr. Cyrus Adler, co-chairmen; American Jewish Congress, Bernard S. Deutsch, president; American Palestine Campaign, Louis Lipsky, chairman; B’nai B’rith, Senator Alfred M. Cohen, president; Hadassah, Mrs. Rose Halprin, president; Poale Zion, David Wertheim, secretary; Jewish National Workers’ Alliance, Louis Segal, Secretary; Mizrachi, Rabbi Wolf Gold, president; Order Sons of Zion, Joseph Kraemer, nasi; Independent Order Brith Abraham Max Silverstein, president; Free Sons of Israel, Simon Goldsmith; Brith Sholom, Judge William Lewis; United Rumanian Jews, Leo Wolfson, president; Federation of Palestine Jews, Hirsch Manichewitz, president.
