Nathan Appelman Named Recipient of Lehman Human Relations Award

Nathan Appelman, philanthropic and communal leader, has been named the recipient of the 1967 Herbert H. Lehman Human Relations Award, it was announced here today by Morris B. Abram, president of the American Jewish Committee, which sponsors the annual award.

“Mr. Appelman is being honored as the person who best exemplifies those creative achievements that characterized Herbert H. Lehman’s outstanding career of public service, ” the announcement stated. The Lehman Award was established in 1963, shortly before Governor Lehman’s death, to honor the long-time leader of the American Jewish Committee. The award is in the form of a three-inch silver medallion portrait of Gov. Lehman, sculptured in bas-relief.
