The first relief from America for the victims of the Palestine earthquake was cabled yesterday by Nathan Straus, famous philanthropist who contributed $250,000 for the establishment of a health center in Jerusalem.
The sum of $20,000 was cabled by Mr. Straus yesterday to Dr. E. M. Bluestone, head of the Hadassah hospital in Palestine. In cabling the money Mr. Straus stated that it was for the relief of the sufferers from the earthquake, regardless of race or creed.
In a statement to the “Jewish Daily Bulletin” Mr. Straus declared: “The calamity in Palestine is awful and I hope that others will despatch immediately contributions towards the splendid relief work which the Hadassah physicians and nurses are doing for the victims of the earthquake.”
