A report in today’s press from Capetown, South Africa, stated 39 enemy aliens recommended by the De Villers Commission for deportation because of Nazi activities and affiliations have been naturalized by the Nationalist government of the Union of South Africa in the second half of 1949.

The Commission was created in 1946 by the government headed by Field Marshal Jan Christian Smuts “to prevent resurgence of national socialistic fascist ideologies in the Union and South West Africa.” During the whole year the government naturalized 76 aliens who had been recommended for deportation by the commission.
