Hans Wesemann, Nazi agent who confessed to the kidnaping from Swiss soil into Germany more than a year ago of Berthold Jakob, German Jewish journalist and refugee, was today sentenced to three years penal servitude and payment of 1,500 Swiss francs as damages to Jakob. Wesemann’s counsel appealed.
The trial, which opened here Monday, was climaxed yesterday by Jakob’s dramatic recitation of his abduction and the tortures he was put through by the Gestapo, Nazi secret State police. Jakob revealed that for sixteen days after he was imprisoned by the Nazis he was kept in chains and given a ruthless third degree.
Maximum sentence that could have been imposed by the court on Wesemann, was eight years.
