The Nazi press today assailed Rudolf Binding, German poet, for having served as chairman of the advisory committee which recommended the work of Dr. Paul Noubauer, Czechoslovakian Jew, for the $20,000 prize for the best work in the German language.
The Essenor National Zeitung, a Nazi Party organ, pointing out that Mr. Binding’s loyalty to the Nazi regime had never been doubted before demanded to know the reason for “this shame.”
“What a joke it must be to the Jewish authors who claim that the Jew is the source of German cultural” the paper declared. “What a triumph for them:”
Mr. Noubauer, 45-year-old editor of the Prager Zeitung in Praha, did not win the prize although he was suggested by the German committee.
