Reports reaching here today from Norway and Belgium state that mass-arrests and deportations of Jews by the Nazis continue unabated and it is feared that not a single Jew in Oslo will remain free.
Gotesborg newspapers report that in Trondheim, Norway, all Jewish women over sixteen years of age were arrested. “Every Jew in Oslo runs the risk of being imprisoned, and the majority of the Jews there have already been arrested,” one of the Gotesborg papers writes. The Social Demokraten, a Swedish newspaper, reports today that even sick Jews are no longer allowed to remain in hospitals in Norway. The Nazis threaten to close down all sanatoriums in Norway that accept Jews as patients.
Reports reaching here from Antwerp reveal that the Nazis have started the expulsion of Jews from the ghetto there to unknown destinations. “The Nazi authorities in Antwerp are openly boasting of the fact that there is more ‘living space’ in the city now because of the expulsion of many Jews from the ghetto,” one report says.
Anther report reveals that in seven streets of Antwerp formerly inhabited by Jews, there are now 552 empty flats in which more than 5,000 Jews once lived.
