Following negotiations with Jewish leaders, the authorities today withdrew an order issued Tuesday directing the Berlin Jewish Community to reduce the size of its council from 41 to 21 by eliminating ten Zionists and ten non-Zionists.
Although an election slate of 41 was permitted, the authorities ordered the names of a number of Zionists withdrawn, to be replaced by other Zionists.
The community elections will be held on Nov. 29. A united list, comprising an equal number of Zionists and non-Zionists, has been drawn up. The list includes Dr. Georg Kareski, head of the German State Zionist Organization.
