A Jewish lawyer from Munich, Herr Spiegel, has been shot down in the Dachau Concentration Camp, it was learned here today.
Spiegel attracted worldwide notice recently when photographs taken in Munich were published in foreign countries showing him undergoing indignities at the hands of the Nazis.
The pictures showed Spiegel being marched down the street with his trousers in shreds and a board hung around his neck on which was printed the statement: “Never again will I complain against the Nazis to the police.”
In an official statement today authorities at the concentration camp said that Spiegel was shot while attempting to escape, but since it is well known that the Dachau camp is surrounded by electrified barbed wire, the official excuse is obviously false.
