The German delegation to the Congress of the Federation of League of Nations Societies walked out today in protest against the decision of the president that the Congress take up the question of Jewish persecution in Germany.
The question was submitted by the Palestine League of Nations Society which is represented at the Congress by Ben-Zion Mossenson and Dr. Nahum Goldmann.
An extraordinary meeting off the Executive of the Congress was called immediately after the German delegation left the hall. At this meeting the German delegation was represented by Dr. Kirchhof. The Palestine delegation was represented by Mossenson and Goldmann. Viscount Cecil represented the British delegation.
DELEGATES NOT FROM REICH
The German delegation at the Congress does not represent the present Nazi Germany which is no longer a member of the League of Nations. It represents chiefly the German minorities from the Polish part of Silesia and from Czechoslovakia. This delegation is understood, however, to be under the control of the Nazi government and its activities are even said to be subsidized directly from Berlin.
A fight with regard to the question of whether the Federation of League of Nations Societies should take up the present Jewish problem in Germany had developed at a previous Congress.
The Jewish delegation announced at that Congress that it would not participate in the sessions if no resolution against the anti-Jewish persecutions in Germany were adopted. The German delegation, on the other hand, threatened to leave the Congress if the Jewish question was taken up.
The Federation of League of Nations Societies has been in existence for fifteen years and was founded for the purpose of upholding and disseminating the ideas and the work of the League of Nations.
