The Nazi authorities in Warsaw are using only Polish and Jewish physicians to combat the spread of typhus, in order to prevent German doctors from becoming infected, it was reported here today.
In order to protect Germans from contact with disease, the reports said, German soldiers are forbidden to enter certain streets and special street cars have been designated for the use of Nazi troops. In railway trains, special care are reserved for German soldiers.
Scarcity of soap, medicaments and hospital facilities hinders the fighting of epidemics, it was said. The death rate is particularly high among children. It is difficult to establish the extent of the spread of typhus outside Warsaw, but the situation in the provinces is apparently worse than in the former capital.
Robotnik, Polish newspaper in Paris, reports that rape of Jewish women by Nazi soldiers continues unabated in all parts of Nazi-occupied Poland. The paper said that in Zamoscz, in the Lublin district, Jewish women and girls were obliged to report daily for “inspection” at certain places where they were detained for several hours to be violated by Nazi soldiers.
