Sufi Abdul Hamid, Harlem’s Negro racial agitator who enjoys being referred to as the “black Hitler,” will appear in Washington Heights Magistrate’s Court, 455 West 151st street, before Judge Thomas A. Aurelio this morning to answer charges of stirring up religious animosity and of peddling books and pamphlets without a permit, in violation of city ordinances.
Hamid was served a police summons accusing him of disorderly conduct. He was to have appeared in court yesterday, but failed to show up, giving illness as an excuse.
A warrant was then issued for his arrest and he was brought into court, where his attorney obtained an adjournment until today, after entering Hamid’s plea of not guilty.
Prominent Negro residents of Harlem are expected to testify that they have heard Hamid preach atheism on street corners and attempt to incite his listeners to violence against the Jews and other religious groups.
