Gaston Henri-Haye, new ambassador of the Petain French Government to the United States, arriving at LaGuardia airport on the Yankee Clipper, said today, in response to questions, that “there is no anti-Semitism in Franc.”
Asked about the abrogation of the law forbidding racial agitation, the ambassador said the measure was cancelled because it gave special privileges to the Jews, and now every group was on the same level. Asked whether he was pro-Nazi, Henri-Haye said. “I am pro-French.”
Ten members of an organization called Hi-Timirs, headed by Henry Hoke, editor of the Direct Mail Reporter, picketed the airport with signs accusing the new ambassador of being a Nazi.
