New Factories Opened

Opening of new industrial establishments in Palestine since Jan. 1 were reported to the Commerce Department today by Consul Christian T. Steger in Jerusalem.

A new citrus alcohol factory at Tel Mond, on the coastal plane, is now in full operation, working three eight-hour shifts daily.

Production of rubber-coated textiles was begun recently at Haifa, with cloth supplied from local sources and the finished product sold in Palestine as raincoats. A modern fish-canning plant established in Haifa at the beginning of the year is working at full capacity and planning to increase production.

A cardboard factory has been established at Tel Aviv which is dependent on import of raw material. In Haifa Bay, a new factory is manufacturing buttons from camel-bone with modern machinery.
