New Jersey is the fourth ranking state in the country in the number of displaced persons accepted, with a total of 32,200, according to a report by the State Commission on Displaced Persons.

New Jersey received 5.9 percent of the 393,244 European refugees resettled in this country. The commissions report attributed much of the success of the program in this state to the work of the voluntary agencies. Although the national DP program has officially ended, Gov. Alfred E. Driscoll asked the commission to continue to provide whatever services were needed by DP’s in the state.
