The text of the proposed animal slaughter bill, now before the House of Commons, provides that every animal must be slaughtered instantaneously or stunned by a mechanically operated device.
Exception is made in the case of animals slaughtered for food for Jews. Such slaughter must be by a Jew, duly licensed for the purpose by the Chief Rabbi and holding a license granted by the local authorities, provided the method of slaughtering inflicts no unnecessary suffering. Exception is also made for animals slaughtered for consumption by Mohammedans. The bill specifies that in this case the animals must be slaughtered by a Mohammedan.
