An appeal to the 1,300 Jewish policemen in New York to work for Christian members of the New York police force on Christmas and New Year’s Day was issued here today by Rabbi Isadore Frank, Jewish chaplain of the Police Department here.
His appeal was released as a departmental directive, bearing Police Commissioner Stephen Kennedy’s name, and addressed to all commands. The directive was the second this year. The first was issued last September to Christian police, urging them to volunteer tour of duty exchanges with Jewish police who wanted time off to observe Yom Kippur.
Rabbi Frank said that the Christmas period gave Jewish police a chance to show their appreciation to Christian officers who volunteered to work for the Jewish police on the High Holy Days.
