With close to $30,000,000 already pledged to the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York’s 1951 campaign, officers of the drive estimated today that the final results will exceed the $35,000,000 raised by U.J.A. in the metropolitan area last year. The estimate was made at a midsummer conference of 400 of New York U.J.A.’s leading volunteer workers and contributors in the Hotel Commodore.
A report on the “excellent progress” this year in New York’s U.J.A. drive was River by Edward U.N. Warburg who presided over the conference. He revealed that the $30,000,000 pledged thus far by individuals, corporations and organizations, represents an increase of more than 10 percent over the sums given by the same contributors in 1950.
In outlining a program for further campaigning this year, Mr. Warburg pointed out that contributors who gave the U.J.A. approximately $9,000,000 last year have not yet made their 1951 gifts. Characterizing the sum “not as a deficit, but as a potential for further achievement,” Mr. Warburg said: “Experience has shown that when we get out to see the people who made these gifts and talk to them about the tremendous humanitarian needs U.J.A. must meet this year, they rally to its support with the fullest generosity.” All we have to do is to continue the fine work we have been doing and we will far exceed last year’s campaign.”
