The newsprint shortage in Israel is so acute that the government does not believe that it will be possible to continue the publication of all of the 200-odd publications, including all of the 17 daily newspapers, Yaacov Geri, Minister of Trade and Industry today declared in the Parliament.
In response to a query about the newsprint situation, the Minister asserted the problem is twofold: a sever world-wide shortage of newsprint; and, Israel’s foreign currency shortage which forbids the allotment of additional sums for the purchase of newsprint abroad.
