The British Government will not “encourage any changes in the status of Palestine without prior consultation with all those, including Jews and Arabs, who might be concerned,” Colonial Secretary Lord Cranborne pledged today in the House of Lords, replying to a question put to him by Lord Davies.

In the House of Commons today, Under-Secretary for Colonies Harold MacMillan declared that the government has reached no decision as to what disposition will be made of the several hundred refugees from various vessels who have been confined in the Athlit internment camp for over a year. When several members of Parliament asked MacMillan for assurances that these refugees would not be deported the Under-Secretary advised them to wait for a full statement by him, later.
