Foreign Minister Ezequiel Padilla, discussing post-war questions today with Jacob Landau, managing editor of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, referred to the Jewish problem and stated that no such problem existed in Mexico. The racial viewpoint, he said, was entirely foreign to Mexicans, “The Jews,” he declared, “are a useful and constructive element. Every Jew should be and is judged on his own individual merits and demerits.
“I have visited Palestine myself and was very favorably impressed by the great efforts that the Jews are making in settling there,” he said. “It is for the Jews themselves to decide whether they want to build up a nation. If they do, I am sure that the Jews with their great abilities are bound to create a nation that will enrich the world.”
