Jews of Raleigh have paid tribute to Bishop Eugene J. McGuinness for his “generous and never-to-be-forgotten gesture of goodwill in offering a home for 200 refugee children at Nazareth Orphanage.” The Bishop, in offering to accept 200 Jewish children on passage of the Wagner-Rogers bill, had expressed willingness to allow them to be ministered to by a rabbi.
The congregations Beth Or and Beth Jacob inserted a full-page advertisement in The Bulletin of the Catholic Laymen’s Association of Georgia captioned “Success” and declaring: “He is indeed a success who has acquired the respect of his neighbor, who has found the love of little children, and who, through his charities towards his fellow-men, whenever his time may come, will leave the world better than when he found it. He indeed is a success.”
