Fifth avenue, New York, I suffered the same as all other countrymen of mine. I was robbed of the firm, worth about $600,000 by the Right Honorable Mitchell Palmer, Alien Property Custodian, who sold the firm after the armistice at a forced auction for about $9,000 to a Jewish firm in New York. This may serve as a hint to the dear reader as to who in reality won the war.”
Dr. Hanfstaengl also writes for the Harvard book: “In 1921 I returned to Germany, finding the country ‘flourishing’ under the blessings of the Versailles treaty. A year later I ran into the man who has saved Germany and civilization—Adolf Hitler.”
“Putzy” Hanfstaengl tried to avoid interviews on the situation of the Jews in Hitler’s paradise. He also tried to avoid the various anti-Nazi demonstrations. He went incognito to a night club. He is being lionized by certain society dames. He is a guest of Harvard University. Before coming here he did two things. He made an offer of a Hanfstaengl scholarship which Harvard cannot accept, and he wrote for the Harvard classbook an autobiographical sketch which is offensive to the United States, and to the Jews, and which extols Hitler as the savior of Germany and civilization.
Hanfstaengl is here not in his official capacity as Hitler’s aide and foreign press liaison. He came to Harvard merely for the purpose of attending the reunion of his class. Hanfstaengl has done nothing in his life that could reflect any honor on Harvard University. On the contrary, by his recent offensive remarks in his autobiography published in the Harvard classbook he is disgracing the American institution of learning which has a record of the finest American traditions.
Hanfstaengl’s gentle hint that the Jews won the war is quite in keeping with the loud-mouthed “ideology” of his master—Adolf Hitler—”the man who saved Germany and civilization.”
Germany lost the war. Only now people everywhere are realizing what a misfortune to civilization a German victory would have been.
Hitlerism has caused Germany also to lose the peace that was being established in Europe with the aid of Rathenau and Stresemann. Hitlerism is now leading Germany to the abyss of moral and economic bankruptey, and on the road to a new war.
Hanfstaengl, the clownish apologist and admirer of “the savior of civilization,” merits the contempt of all decent Americans.
