Recently the organ of Goebbels, the Nazi Minister of Propaganda and Enlightenment, the Angriff, sent a special correspondent to Palestine to describe the present situation. The first few articles, devoted to the activities of the Jewish pioneers, were extremely laudatory, presenting the facts of the achievements of the Halutzim. Suddenly the series was interrupted by Dr. Goebbels, The Nazi Minister of Enlightenment must have realized the absurdity of his anti-Jewish charges that the Jews everywhere constitute a destructive element, in the light of his own correspondent’s findings regarding the hard work and idealism of the Jewish pioneers who are rebuilding the Holy Land.

The Nazi Ministry of Propaganda and Enlightenment, fabricating falsehoods for home consumption and for dissemination in foreign lands, naturally shuns the light and turns away from the truth.

THE JEWS OF SULZBACH

One Jew and seven elderly Jewess left the town of Sulzbach, Bavaria, thus marking the end of the three-hundred-year-old Jewish community. There was a time when the Jewish community of Sulzbach, though small in number, was distinguished for the printing of Hebrew and Yiddish books. The synagogue was regarded as one of the finest in all Germany. For some time the Jewish community kept dwindling, and since he Nazi regime had come into power, the last 170 families left the town. Only one old Jew and seven elderly Jewish women remained. The Jews of Sulzbach took along with them the only removable relic of the old synagogue, the Mogen David, made of stone, which was suspended in the courtyard of the synagogue over the Chuppah.

The smaller Jewish communities in Germany have been harder hit than those in the larger centers. For in the smaller towns and villages the Nazi agitators could easily single out every Jew for derision and economic annihilation.

Thus three hundred years of Jewish contributions to trades and crafts and learning in Germany have been obliterated because of the race theory of “Aryan” superiority and Nazi brutality.

THE NAZI VERSION

Naziland has given its answer to “The House of Rothschild.” The Kulturtraeger could not bear to see the Rothschilds depicted sympathetically in the Arliss film. So they now shower praise upon a mediocre play by Eberhard Wolfgang Moeller, entitled “Rothschild Won at Waterloo.” Moeller is regarded as the new hope of the Nazi drama.

The new play deals with the theme of the rise of Nathan Rothschild. Moeller created a Jewish villainous financier to please the Nazi taste.

In six acts he tells the legend which connects Rothschild with the battle of Waterloo. Accompanied by his bookkeeper, Rothschild watches Wellington fight the decisive battle at Waterloo. When Bluecher’s Prussian soldiers arrive, he realizes that Wellington will win, and hurrying off to Brussels, he catches a coach to Ostend, where he finds sailors willing to brave the Channel storm. Rothschild arrives in London one day before the official courier, and causes a panic at the Stock Exchange by a false report to the effect that Napoleon had won the battle of Waterloo. The bonds tumble and his agents buy them up. When the news of Napoleon’s defeat arrives, the bonds rise sky-high, and Rothschild makes a million pounds in one day.

The Nazi critics, praising the play, emphasize that this dramatic work portrays truthfully the “filthy machinations of the Jewish financial speculators and war profiteers.”

The Nazis describe the villain as a typical Jew “who makes money out of the sufferings of others.” They are ever ready to distort the facts. And they conveniently forget all about the “Aryan” speculators and war profiteers who have made their fortunes out of the sufferings of others, and who are now making feverish preparations for a new European catastrophe.
