IT IS reported that representative Dickstein has declined the chairmanship of the Congressional Committee to investigate Nazi activities in the United States and that a non-Jew will be appointed chairman. It is also understood that a Jew, a Catholic and a Protestant will be members of the committee. This is a wise plan. The Committee must be representative. The investigation should be conducted with a thoroughness that will impress not only the American people but also public opinion abroad. There is a mass of evidence to establish beyond the shadow of a doubt that the Nazi propagandists have been inciting race hatred in this country, villifying American Government officials, including the President of the United States, and attacking American democratic institutions. While the Jews are the greatest sufferers under the Hitler regime and while most of the Nazi propaganda in this country has been directed mainly against the Jews, the Congressional Committee will investigate the anti-American phases of the Nazi activities in the United States. The revelations of Nazi duplicity and arrogance are certain to startle American public opinion.

Congressman Dickstein, in declining the chairmanship, is reported to have remarked: “I am working for the cause and not for the glory.” He deserves congratulations and much credit for his splendid, sensible stand on this question.
