The head of the ultra right-wing National Democratic Party today repeated his prediction that the NPD would win between eight and 12 percent of the vote in next Sunday’s national elections and said it might supersede the liberal Free Democrats as the third largest group in the West German Parliament.
Adolf von Thadden told a news conference that he was not concerned over moves to have his party banned as anti-democratic under German law. Many elements in Germany and abroad consider the NPD to be neo-Nazi. Mr. von Thadden denied that his party had any contact with foreign Fascist parties.
His prediction that the NPD vote would be well above the five percent required to obtain seats in the Bundestag was not supported by various public opinion polls. One taken last week for the London Times gave the NPD 4.1 percent. Other polls taken for West German newspapers and television gave the party as little as three percent.
