The number of Jews who applied for first aid treatment as the result of attacks by anti-Semitic rioters seeking revenge for the death of a Polish student, Jan Grotkowski, killed after a drunken brawl, today reached a total of 146.
Thousands of people participated in the funeral services conducted today for Grotkowski. The services scheduled to be held from the cemetery, were conducted instead from the Student’s House. The entire faculty of the University attended in a body and their number was augmented by professors from other institutions. Many clergymen were also in the funeral procession.
Jewish stores were closed today as their owners feared reprisals.
The situation in Lemberg continues disturbed. Last night a mob of six hundred proceeded to attack the Jewish quarter. Thirty-three arrests were made by the police.
Wholesale looting of Jewish stores continues. The anti-Semites have smashed the street lamps in order to increase the confusion and to prevent the police from disturbing the attackers.
