Albert Welt, representative of the Rumanian Red ##es in Vienna, has proposed the admission of a number of displaced Jews now in ##tria to the United States on the virtually unused Russian quota.

Welt suggested that Jewish refugees who come originally from territory in ##ania and Poland ceded to the Soviet Union after the war be considered nationals ## the U.S.S.R. He pointed out that the present U.S. quota system is largely based ## the boundary lines which existed previous to the second World War and that if his ##posed changes are made a large number of Jews could be given haven in the United States.

The Jewish community of Vienna today celebrated the U.N. decision to set up ## Jewish State in Palestine. A similar mass meeting was held over the week-end ##ich was attended by 2,000 refugee and DP Jews. Both demonstrations expressed ##heir thanks to the U.N. delegates who voted for partition, as well as to the Ameri##an Jewish community which “helped the Jews in Europe while they waited for re##attlement.” Thanksgiving celebrations are expected to continue throughout the week.
