Five Israeli ships delayed by a one-day strike by their officers, sailed for their destinations today. The officers returned to work this morning after expressing satisfaction that negotiations for higher wages were making progress.
The Zim Lines, Israel’s national shipping company and the country’s largest, has reportedly agreed to salary increases for the officers, although not to the extent they had demanded. The unlicensed seamen’s union is waiting for a settlement with the officers before pressing their own wage demands.
