Official Anti-semitish of German Government Shocks Jewish Comminity of Berlin

Official anti-Semitism of the German Government, in connection with the memorial service to the war heroes on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the World War, has shocked the Jewish community of Berlin.

A great memorial meeting is scheduled to be held on August 3rd in front of the Reichstag in Berlin. President Ebert is to be the Chief speaker, and religious leaders of the Protestant and Catholic churches have been invited to address the gathering. When the Jewish community suggested that a Rabbi be included among the speakers, to do honor to the Jewish war victims, the suggestion was ignored.

The Jewish community then decided to arrange its own special memorial service on the cemetery of the Jewish war dead, and issued a call to the Jews of Berlin to participate. Permission to hold this memorial service has now been refused by the police, who give as an excuse for the prohibition the fact that “On Memorial Day no gatherings can be held.”

Jewish circles here are very much depressed on account of this action of the Government. The Kehillah has denied to hold its memorial service for the Jewish warriors on Tisha B’ov.
