The Building of the Beth Israel Congregation, one of the oldest Jewish places of worship in the country was sold by the city auction to a wrecking company for $750.
The edifice which has housed the congregation since 1870 was acquired with the land on which it stood by the city from the congregation last year at a price of $60,000.
